Emery R. Currier, 84 died Wednesday (Feb. 24) at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Middlesboro, KY on November 10, 1925 the son of Ralph and Stella (Peck) Currier. He lived in Tennessee then Lexington, MA before moving to Claremont, NH where he attended school. In the spring of 1944 he was appointed to the Merchant Marine Academy in West Point, NY. He was later transferred to Corpus Christi, TX, and then sent to sea. He served in many ports in Europe, Africa and the Philippines. At the end of WWII he returned to Claremont and received his high school diploma from Stevens High School. He then married his high school sweetheart, Lodisa “Dicy” Johnson. Emery then started a sheet metal business in Claremont with his father in law, John Cross. Later he moved to Springfield, MA and was an engineer for Hurley & David Company, distributors of Carrier Air Conditioning. He was the leading salesman in the East, winning many company trips to island resorts, Europe and Russia. In high school he played football and basketball and later became an accomplished golfer. He played in the Hartford Pro-Am tournaments for ten years and once his team with George Archer, won the tournament. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lodisa “Dicy” Currier in 2002. On May 31, 2008 he married Rita (Leduc) Lapointe. She was a devoted wife and caregiver during his two year illness. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in South Hadley, MA. Emery will be remembered as a kind and considerate man who was devoted to his family. Members of his family include, his wife, Rita (Lapointe) Currier, South Hadley, MA; one sister, Norma Nemkovich, Springfield, VT; two brothers, Roger Currier, Claremont, NH; G. Larry Currier, Williston, VT; a very special friend, Daniel Skibel and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday (March 3) in the First Congregational Church of South Hadley, 1 Church Street, South Hadley, MA. Friends may call at the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley, MA on Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday (March 4) in the West Claremont Burial Ground at Union Cemetery with the Rev. Priscilla Hull, officiating. Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
